The
Soleil Babinet Compensator is basically a zero order waveplate with variable
retardation. Through a manual adjustment one may select a uniform
phase difference between the e- and o-rays of 0 to 2π.
As a result, incident elliptically or circularly polarized light can be
converted to linearly polarized light by introducing the appropriate
compensation. From readings obtained, a complete analysis of the state
of polarization of incident light can be made.
Of course, the converse of this is also true, that is, any desired
polarization form can be obtained by pre-setting the appropriate values on
the instrument.
The above listed features are available only with Special Optics
Compensators. Precision and operational convenience are provided by
the unique indexing head with eight detents spaced at 45º
intervals for rapid and accurate orientation of the crystal's axes. A
0º
to 360º
precision engraved drum with vernier provides added versatility. For
all compensators mounted on the Model 60-1026 Rotary Mount, the distance
from the mounting base to the optical centerline is 76.2mm. Four
1/4"-20 clearance holes for mounting are spaced 50.8mm along the beam
propagation axis and 50.8mm orthogonal to the propagation axis. All
compensators are supplied in wood instrument cases with instruction manual. |
